This first activity consists in developing new materials based on opaque PET from recycling.

We will first characterize opaque PET coming from waste sorting in order to study the properties variability of this raw material. Then we will define the specifications of the end materials we aim at producing, taking into account both technical and economic criteria. We will develop and optimize the polymers made with opaque PET. Materials will be prepared using melt extrusion. Their mechanical, rheological and thermal properties will be characterized.

The responsibility of this main activity is given to UPV/EHU. The tasks distribution between partners will be set according to their core competences in nanocomposites and polymer blends :
– UPPA will be in charge of melt extrusion and rheological characterization
– UNIZAR will characterize materials morphologies
– UPV/EHU will characterize thermal properties
– ENIT will study mechanical properties and aging under cyclic stresses
– CCP-UPC will study the fracture mechanics.
